Torque tables
Torque is a specification of the joint, not of thread diameter alone. Strength class, friction and joint design affect the tightening requirement. Start tool selection with the approved target torque.
Selection note
The table is a limited extract from Bossard technical information, January 2025: metric coarse threads, thread and bearing friction coefficients µ = 0.14, 90% yield utilisation. Values are maximum guidance figures without a safety factor, not universal tool settings.
Application & selection
Joint calculations and manufacturer instructions take precedence. Do not transfer these values to HV structural assemblies, Porsche centre locks, stainless steel, fine threads or different lubrication and coatings. The same torque can generate different preload when friction changes.
Discuss your application
Then check the confirmed tool range, square drive, socket rating, reaction arrangement and the individual calibration record. The model number is not necessarily its maximum torque in Nm.
